I was appalled by the honorable Margaret Craven’s letter to the Sun Journal (Dec. 3). She aligned me with “America’s enemies.”

For the subject at hand, by changing the date of municipal elections to the second Tuesday of June, the weather would be warmer, the days are longer, and it would make it much easier for everyone to get out to the polls.

No one would be “prevented” from voting, just as no one is prevented now. There will always be absentee ballot voting available to all and if college students are passionate about voting in municipal elections, they will continue to do so.

What if other municipalities followed suit? All the better for them, too, especially up north where the weather can be even more of a hindrance.

I commend all of the college students who serve this community well, and I encourage all of them to stay involved.

The slippery slope has been happening for years, where simply showing a student ID allows students to vote — no second form of identification needed to prove they are even U.S. citizens.

There is no lack of democracy in this petition. Actually, it is democracy at its best. I am available to anyone wishing to sign the petition.
