LIVERMORE FALLS — The Town Office is closed on Wednesdays until further notice “because we’re missing a treasurer,” said Town Manager Kristal Flagg on Friday. “We’re trying to figure out what we’re going to do.”
Town Clerk/Treasurer Susan Sapiel of Jay resigned Monday, Nov. 16. Flagg said Sapiel was placed on administrative leave Nov. 13.
Selectmen appointed Flagg as acting treasurer. Amanda Allen of Livermore Falls was appointed town clerk.
Paychex payroll service is going through the town’s payroll records to make sure everything is in order, Flagg said.
“As far as I know, there’s no theft of services or funds,” she said.
The town hasn’t advertised for the town clerk/treasurer position, Flagg said. Selectmen have separated the town clerk and treasurer positions, and may make the treasurer position part time with no benefits in order to save money, she said.
The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
