WALES — Grace Sabine notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Oak Hill to a 41-32 victory over Winthrop in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders (3-1) went on a 15-2 run in the first quarter and led 27-11 at the half. Abby Nadeau pitched in with nine points and seven rebounds for Oak Hill.
Shie Smith scored a team-leading eight points for the Ramblers (0-4)
Dirigo 72, Telstar 24
DIXFIELD — Senior forward Lauren Henderson drained an impressive 28 points to lead Dirigo to a 72-24 rout over Telstar in MVC girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (2-2) jumped to a 20-1 lead in the first quarter and led 39-9 at the half.
Sabrina Daoud contributed a double-double with 21 points and 13 steals to go along with seven rebounds and five assists for Dirigo.
Becca Howard provided the Rebels with nine of their 24 points.
Buckfield 52, Hyde 36
BUCKFIELD — Senior guard Alexis Bennett netted 22 points to lead Buckfield to a 52-36 victory over Hyde in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Bucks (2-2) jumped out to a comfortable 24-12 first half lead and held on in the second half. Alyssa Theriault contributed seven points for Buckfield.
Timesha Walker and Diamond Brown contributed 12 points each for the Phoenix (1-2).
Rangeley 57, North Haven 19
RANGELEY — Senior center Blayke Morin tossed a game-leading 16 points as Rangeley motored to a 57-19 victory over North Haven in girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers (3-1) skimmed across the surface with a 22-2 margin in the second quarter, and led 35-7 at the break. Senior guard Sydney Rocye notched a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds for Rangeley.
Sophomore guard Jasmine Brown collected three field goals for a team-leading six points for North Haven in the losing effort.
Boys’ basketball
Rangeley 81, North Haven 30
RANGELEY — Kyle LaRochelle tickled the twines with 22 points as Rangeley dumped North Haven 81-30 in boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers (2-2) jumped out to a 31-4 first quarter lead, and continued to flood the scoreboard for the next two frames. Ricky Thompson contributed 18 points for Rangeley.
Mikael Stone was the leading scorer for the Hawks (0-5) with nine points.
Dirigo 70, Telstar 40
DIXFIELD — Senior guard Riley Robinson shot a spectacular 28 points to lead Dirigo to a 70-40 triumph over Telstar in MVC boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (4-0) executed a quick first quarter with a 25-11 run on pressure defense, and led 38-18 at the midpoint. Clay Swett chipped in with 11 points for Dirigo.
Sophomore forward Tanner Wheeler contributed nearly half of the Rebel’s (1-3) points with 18 to his credit.
Boys’ hockey
Windham 9, Gray-New Gloucester 1
GORHAM — Zach Callahan scored a hat trick as Windham-Westbrook secured a 9-1 victory over Gray-New Gloucester-Poland-Oak Hill in boys’ ice hockey action Saturday evening.
Windham-Westbrook scored in each period, including seven in the third frame. Tyler Johnson contributed a pair of goals in the winning effort.
Bailey Drouin converted a pass from Deryk Belanger midway through the third period to score the lone Gray-New Gloucester-Poland-Oak Hill goal.
Girls’ hockey
St. Dom’s 8, York 1
ROCHESTER, N.H. — Callie Samson and Tia Rotolico netted two goals apiece as St. Dom’s sailed to an 8-1 victory over York in girls’ hockey action Saturday afternoon.
The Saints (4-0) scored five goals in the second period. Lexi Kesaris scored the seventh goal of the game for St. Dom’s, and assisted on both of Samson’s tallies.
Grace Campbell provided a feed to Maez Campbell, who in turn found the back of the net, with 2:17 remaining in regulation for the Wildcats, spoiling the shutout for St. Dom’s.
Women’s basketball
UMaine 76, Bryant 38
ORONO — Sigi Koizar led all scorers with 18 points as the University of Maine picked up their 10th straight home victory with a 76-38 rout of Bryant in women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.
Liz Wood contributed 15 points, four rebounds and six steals for the Black Bears (8-4) which propelled her into ninth on Maine’s all-time scoring list (1,250), passing former teammate Ashleigh Roberts for the spot.
Maine, trailing by one early in the first quarter, poured on the offense and staged a 13-0 run, beginning with back-to-back buckets from Wood, to take a 20-6 lead with a minute left in the quarter.
The offense wasn’t the only story for the Black Bears as Maine forced 25 Bryant turnovers and held the Bulldogs (2-7) to a 1-for-16 mark from 3-point range and 27.7% from the field.
Men’s basketball
Colby 78, Bates 74
WATERVILLE — The Bates men’s basketball team led by as much as 13 points in the second half, but fell to Colby College, 78-74, in overtime Saturday afternoon.
Mike Boornazian led all scorers with 25 points, and Mike Newton contributed a double-double off the bench with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Bobcats (4-3).
The Mules (6-1) hit a three-pointer with time running out in regulation to force overtime and eventually pulled out the victory. Ryan Jann stunned Bates with the deep 3-pointer.
Bates never led in the extra period as the teams traded buckets to start. With the game tied at 72, Colby went on a 6-0 run to take the lead for good.
