LEWISTON — A series of cultural surveys looks to define what kinds of arts programs the Twin Cities expect.

“We are asking for people’s perspectives on the arts and culture, both historically in L-A and for the future iterations — what they see for best practices and what arts and culture could do for these cities,” L/A Arts President Joshua Vink said. “We are asking them to think about what they personally go to for arts offerings and what they would like to see more often.”

The survey comes in three varieties — one for members of creative organizations, one for artists and one for the general public.

“We are trying to get one shared vision about our strategies and the important pieces of what we do,” Vink said. “We are working through how we can continue to be a support entity, whether we will be a grant-making organization, whether we will continue facilitating and leading nonprofits and also how we can continue to do great events that people love, like Ice Fest and Art Walk.”

The surveys are available online, at reinholtconsulting.com/lewiston-auburn, and in paper form, available in multiple locations downtown, including Forage Market, City Hall, Lewiston Public Library, Auburn Public Library and Auburn Hall.

L/A Arts is working with Waterville-based Reinholt Consulting to design a new strategic plan for the organization. The surveys are not a specific part of that, but Vink said the answers will help inform that plan.

“This complements a strategic plan because we’ll learn what people want today,” Vink said. “That will show us our target audience and how the market breaks down, and also help us leverage more partnerships and funding.”
