DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at the First Congregational Church on East Maine Street in South Paris. This will be the annual planning meeting. Please come with program ideas that you would like the guild to do and a list of possible tours that you would like the guild to take.

The group will also do some knitting, chatting and a show and tell as well. At the last meeting members donated a large amount of non-perishable food items to the local food pantry in addition to celebrating Christmas and a potluck luncheon. As we approach winter weather, please bear in mind that if school is cancelled as a result of the weather the guild meeting will also be cancelled.

New members are also invited to attend the meetings. If you think you would like to join this group, please call Buffy Nason at 207-539-2518 for more information.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Maine Genealogical DIG, which is a DNA Interest Group, is a new group that will assist people in using and understanding Genetic Genealogy, DNA testing. We want to help people decide who to test, when to test, why to test and how to work most efficiently with the results.

DNA results are to be used as a tool along with traditional research. Meetings are free and open to everyone. We will meet the second Saturday of the month starting Saturday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Gray Public Library, 5 Hancock Street in Gray.

Our meetings will include volunteer presentations covering all aspects of DNA testing, group discussions, sharing, and working together to learn more about using DNA. For more information, contact Nancy Milliken Mason, at dna@maine.rr.com or call her at 207-239-1970.
