FARMINGTON — Local police officer Michael Lyman has been named the department’s Employee of the Year for 2015.
Lyman was acknowledged for his work on an investigation of a complex drug case and other successful investigations and convictions, Police Chief Jack Peck said in a letter to Lyman.
Lyman’s traffic enforcement efforts were also mentioned. Lyman conducted over 1,300 motor vehicle stops, which resulted in getting 22 suspected drunken drivers off the road and making 100 arrests and criminal summonses, Peck said.
The annual award is given to a full-time employee who stands well above their peers in the performance of their duties and contributes to the mission of the department, Peck said.
“During the last year, your work ethic, dedication and professionalism have not gone unnoticed by myself or your peers,” Peck wrote. “You have taken on the added responsibility of helping to manage the evidence room and writing, applying for and administering an OUI grant.”
In addition, Lyman attended sessions on investigating drug trafficking and the field training officer program. The field training officer program will prove to be successful in years to come, because Lyman will have the opportunity to teach new officers and instill his work ethic, patience and compassion, Peck said.
Even with these new and added responsibilities, Lyman maintained outstanding traffic enforcement efforts.
“Your overall professionalism, dedication and work ethic to our department helps the Farmington Police meet its mission statement, which is “to create a feeling of safety for the people within the town of Farmington,” Peck said.
