LEWISTON — A new technology business is moving downtown and bringing 12 jobs with it.

Guideline Technologies, a 7-month-old California-based company that provides retirement planning and small business 401(k) services, is leasing space at 223 Lisbon St.

The company decided to settle its new office in Lewiston because its chief technology officer is here. Mike Nelson grew up in Auburn and worked with Guideline’s founders in California before moving back to Maine with his family. He’s been working remotely for Guideline.

“Basically, now I’m in a position where we can open an office here and I can start hiring engineers, as well as start selling to local businesses,” Nelson said.

Guideline is moving into the Lisbon Street building this week. With help from the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council, the company found a number of possible locations in Lewiston and Auburn, but it liked the approximately 2,200 square feet of open space the Lisbon Street building could provide.

Guideline plans to hire 12 people throughout the year, including software engineers, quality assurance workers and support staff.
