RUMFORD — The Oxford County Wellness Collaborative and the Western Foothills Kids Association will hold a free screening of the documentary “Paper Tigers” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, in Muskie Auditorium at Mountain Valley High School.
Patricia Duguay, executive director of the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition, said the 2015 film focuses on the lives of several students at Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Wash., and how they cope with traumatic stress that has lasting effects on their behavioral, mental and physical health.
Barb Radmore, after-school program director for Western Foothills Kids Association, said the purpose of the screening is to introduce the community to long-term effects of childhood trauma, such as substance abuse or alcoholism in the family, domestic violence and poverty.
There will be a discussion after the screening, Duguay said.
“Mental health professionals will be there to answer questions, or to talk one-on-one as needed,” she said. “There is great support for this within the community, and we’re hoping that (Regional School Unit 10) staff will attend.”
Western Foothills Kids Association provides after-school programs for RSU 10.
Duguay said the film will also be screened in Bethel, South Paris and Fryeburg.
