FARMINGTON — One of three co-defendants accused of robbing a 75-year-old Jay man last June was sentenced Friday to serve six years of a 15-year robbery sentence, according to Franklin County court documents.
Jay police Detective Michael Mejia said previously that Eric Hafford, 35, of Livermore Falls and Daniel Leet, 34, of Lewiston had their faces covered when they forced their way into the Farrington Road home at about 11:30 p.m. June 28, 2015.
The owner was awoken, and his hands were taped behind his back. He was made to lie face down on the bed while he was robbed of his wallet, part of an extensive coin collection and his cellphone, Mejia had said.
Hafford, 35, who listed Maine State Prison as his residence on court forms, pleaded guilty Friday to a felony charge of robbery and a misdemeanor charge of criminal restraint, according to court documents. He received a 15-year sentence on the robbery charge with all but six years suspended, and a 364-day sentence on the criminal restraint charge.
In a plea agreement with the state, felony charges of burglary and theft were dismissed.
While Hafford was in custody at the Franklin County jail, Mejia charged him twice in separate incidents for having contact with his girlfriend and co-defendant Amanda Cote, 39, of Livermore Falls.
Hafford pleaded guilty Friday to felony charges of tampering with a witness and violation of condition of release in those cases.
A Franklin County justice sentenced Hafford to four years each on the tampering with a witness and violation of conditions of release charges. Those sentences will also be served at the same time as the robbery and criminal restraint sentences.
Hafford is required to pay up to $5,000 in restitution with other defendants, if convicted, for the benefit of the Jay man.
Leet’s case has not been resolved. He is charged with felony robbery, burglary and theft, and misdemeanor criminal restraint.
Leet and Hafford are accused of using the man’s debit card to get $516 at two ATMs and cashing in 530 coins, totaling more than $200.
Cote’s case has also not been resolved. She is accused of being the getaway driver. She was arrested on felony charges of robbery, burglary and hindering apprehension for prosecution.
Cote was also arrested three times on felony charges of violation condition of release for having contact with Hafford while he was in jail.
