1938 – 2016
Venise R. Langlois, 77, a resident of Summer Street in Lewiston, passed away Friday evening, Jan. 22, at Clover Manor with her family at her side.
She was born in Lewiston on June 18, 1938, one of three children born to Adrian and Adele (Dupuis) Blais.
Venise was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community.
She married Armand Langlois on Oct. 30, 1965, and together they settled in Lewiston to raise their family.
Venise worked for many years in local shoe shops until her retirement, and was a longtime member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. Being a lady of strong faith, Venise was very active in the church, always helping to coordinate and participating in various church activities. For several years, she served as a Eucharistic minister, but most notably, Venise was a founder of the church’s “Giving Tree Coffee House” in 1980, and served in a leadership capacity for the organization until 1985.
Venise was a kind lady and always gave so much of herself to help others. Among her other favorite enjoyments were knitting and crocheting hats, mittens, quilts and other items for family and friends, cooking, making her delicious pasta sauce, meat pies and venison meat pies.
Venise was a loving, devoted and hardworking wife, mother, grandmother and sister who will be dearly missed.
She leaves behind three children, David Langlois and wife, Tracy-Ann, of San Antonio, Texas, Daniel Langlois of Lewiston, and Sandy Langlois, also of Lewiston; three grandchildren, Nicole, Ryan and Kerrie Lynn; two sisters, Doris L. Orestis and companion, Ray O’Hara, of Lewiston, and Diane Ferreira and husband, Walter, of Cape Elizabeth; a niece, Lisa Jones and husband, Zachary, of Falmouth; and two nephews, John Orestis of Auburn, and George Orestis and wife, Shannon, of Camden; and three great-nephews, John, Gideon and Aiden.
Venise was predeceased by her husband, Armand, who passed away on May 4, 1981; her parents; and a grandson, Wilfred Frank.
