GREENE — Slippery conditions were blamed Friday night for a three-vehicle crash on North River Road that sent two people to a Lewiston hospital.

Police said a teenage boy from Turner was driving a Volvo station wagon north at about 5 p.m. when his car slid out of control and crossed into oncoming traffic.

The Volvo was struck head-on by a southbound GMC pickup driven by Stephen Gowell of Greene, police said. Also southbound, Elijah Lamothe of Monmouth was not able to stop his Jeep SUV in time to avoid colliding with the back of Gowell’s truck.

State police investigating the wreck did not identify the Turner teen because he is a minor. He was taken to a Lewiston hospital where he was expected to undergo surgery for his injuries, police said.

Gowell also was being examined at the hospital for possible broken bones, police said. None of the injuries was considered life-threatening.

No charges were filed in the crash. Police said three passengers in the Volvo escaped without injury.
