BRUNSWICK — Police on Monday said they arrested Stephen L. McIntire, 55, of Bath, and charged with recording images of women in their homes without their consent.
The violation-of-privacy charges result from an investigation into several “peeping Tom” reports in the neighborhood around Bowdoin College last fall, Police Cmdr. Mark Waltz said.
McIntire was arrested at Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset, where he was being held on unrelated charges.
The new charges are based on “non-consensual videos of adults inside their residences that were captured through windows,” according to a police press release. The residences were on and off the Bowdoin College campus.
All identifiable individuals in the videos have been notified, police said.
McIntire was previously arrested Nov. 25 in Bath and charged with breaking into a woman’s home and exposing himself.
McIntire was convicted in 1997 on a charge of gross sexual assault, in 2004 for violation of privacy, and in 2014 on violation of privacy, criminal trespass, and failure to comply with the sex offender registry.
He has remained in Two Bridges Jail since being charged in November.
Brunswick police said Bath’s investigation into the November crime resulted in a lead in their own investigation of the peeping Tom cases.
McIntire in the past had attended an independent sex offender support group held at First Parish Church, across the street from the college, according to police.
The church terminated its rental agreement with that group in November, at the request of the college. A student was allegedly raped in her Belmont Street residence Nov. 10 by an unknown assailant, and two other female students reported being grabbed by unidentified individuals in the neighborhood around the college on Nov. 17 and Dec. 13.
Waltz said Monday that McIntire is not a suspect in any other cases in Brunswick.
