DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have two questions: First, where is Brad Rogers, reporter for the news on Channel 13 in Portland? I haven’t seen him for a while.
Second, how come the Sun Journal can’t put the Megabucks Plus numbers in the paper the next day like the rest of the numbers? Ninety-five percent of the time, it says “N/A”. They are over by 8:30 on Wednesday nights. Thanks again. — Peru Pulp Man, Peru.
ANSWER: Thank you for writing. First, Brad Rogers is still reporting for the WGME 13 News team. He took Christmas and New Year’s Day off, but otherwise, he’s on the news at 5, 6 and 10 p.m., and some days at 5:30. Keep watching and you’re sure to see him.
You’re right about the Megabucks Plus drawings being held earlier in the evenings than some other lottery drawings, like Powerball or Mega Millions, which are both drawn at 11 p.m. Megabucks Plus are drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7:59 p.m., which, in theory, would make a person think the Sun Journal should be able to put the results in the paper for the following day.
There are a couple of factors that might affect how the Sun Journal publishes that information. First, since you live in Peru, you receive the first edition of the paper. That means the deadline to have the pages ready for the press is earlier in the evening that customers who receive the second edition. Another factor might be how the newsroom receives the lottery results. Because the hard working reporters and editors are so busy putting the paper together at night, they rely on a newswire service to send them the information to print. If those newswires come in either before the lottery results are available, or after the pages have been sent to print, then it is difficult to include the numbers.
For instance, the full lottery results from Wednesday’s drawing were moved on the wire at 11:13 p.m., after the first edition deadline.
Either way, the Sun Journal understands how important it is to know those lottery results as soon as possible — after all, you could be a winner, and we hope you remember us when you are! — and strives to include them when they are available.
