SKOWHEGAN — Skowhegan wrestlers captured eight individual titles Saturday at the Class A North regional championships, easily carrying the team to a 121½-point victory over Cony for the regional crown.
Logan Stevens, Kameron Doucette, Julian Sirois, Luke Bolster, Cooper Holland, Samson Sirois, Richard Oberg and Cody Craig all captured individual first-place finishes for the heavily favored Indians.
Jon Bell added a second-place finish for the hosts, and Austin Merrill and Caleb Vautier registered third-place points in the big win.
Cony edged Nokomis for second place by 7½ points, thanks in large part to a win by Max Story at 220 pounds. He scored a major decision over Oxford Hills’ Logan Truman in the final.
The Vikings, who placed sixth overall in the team competition, did have one individual winner. Jaden Davis earned a major decision over Hilary Merrifield of Camden Hills at 113 pounds. Kyle Dexter joined Truman with a second-place finish, losing in the 195-pound final to Christopher Wilson of Nokomis.
Justin David, Zuka Mabior and Marcelo Mazariego of Oxford Hills all earned points while losing in the consolation finals.
Mt. Blue’s Austin Seeley reached the consolation final at 220 pounds, losing to Dylan Schenk of Mt. Ararat/Brunswick.
Following Skowhegan, Cony and Nokomis in the team scoring were Camden Hills and Westbrook to round out the top five. Mt. Ararat/Brunswick placed seventh, just 3½ points shy of Oxford Hills. Mt. Blue was tied for 12th.
