I am writing about the waiting list for public housing programs. There are people with small children out there who have had to leave their homes because, even though they work, they are unable to pay all the bills. They end up out on the streets.

Why should they always be the ones who pay while others live comfortably without worries?

People who have children should not be the ones to be put on a one- to a two-year waiting list. They do work and try to put a roof over their children’s heads, but with the high prices of rents and the low hourly pay, it is impossible. That is so unfair. And what is with those people living in public housing who are over the income limit (Sun Journal, Feb. 5)?

Some people who do have a place to live in come into hard times. They go to city or town officials to try for some help but there always seems to be some stupid reason why they don’t qualify for any assistance programs.

They have to show proof of every penny earned and paid out. And there is no help if a person makes even $1 over the limit. Officials always find a way to deny assistance to they don’t have to help out.

Why not give the poor people a chance to be in a rent program?

A lot of senior citizens face housing problems, as well.

Give the poor a chance to put a roof over their children’s heads.
