Bangor High School’s boys’ soccer program will be looking for a new head coach this fall after Billy Channon, who has coached the team since 2011, accepted the head coaching job at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine.

“I’m extremely excited to join the team at Maine Maritime Academy,” Shannon said in a news release. “I look forward to working with the student-athletes and make a positive impact on the men’s soccer program.”

Before Bangor High School, Shannon served as the Premier Soccer Club Program Director and Coach for Black ear United in Bangor, and was the assistant men’s coach at Husson University in 2010.B

“I want to thank the Maine Maritime Academy administration for the opportunity to become part of a successful and growing institution with a rich history in developing leaders both on and off the field,” Shannon added.

“Coach Shannon is all business,” MMA Director of Athletics, Steve Peed, said. “He is an effective communicator with a clear vision for this program that is 100-percent congruent with the direction we want it to go. He will prove to be an outstanding fit for our department, our student-athletes, and Maine Maritime Academy.”

Shannon is a 2010 graduate of Husson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. While at Husson, Shannon was captain of the men’s soccer team and earned All-Conference honors. Shannon earned a Master of Sports Leadership degree from Northeastern University in 2013.

Shannon will assume his role on Tuesday, March 1.
