JAY — Selectpersons and the town’s Budget Committee will vote on a draft proposed $5.3 million budget for 2016-17 on Monday, Feb. 22, and Tuesday, Feb. 23.
The meetings will be held at Spruce Mountain High School in Jay. Prior to Monday’s meeting, selectpersons will hold a regular meeting at the school at 5:30 p.m.
Department budgets will be decided by vote on Monday, with the requests for the Jay-Niles Memorial Library and donations on Tuesday. The only two donation requests, besides the library, tentatively to be funded are liability insurance coverage for Spruce Mountain Ski Area and area youth sports.
These will be the final votes before the spending plan goes to residents via ballot on April 26.
The draft budget is $155,293 less than the current budget. Department heads had previously cut about $250,000 prior to selectpersons and the Budget Committee initiating reviews earlier this month.
After factoring in anticipated revenues, the estimated net budget that taxpayers will have to raise is $3.87 million, which is $428,359 less than the amount raised for the current year.
