FARMINGTON — The Arts Institute of Western Maine, Bethel’s Mahoosuc Arts Council and the Kingfield Pops have announced they will bring Synchronicity for a series of concerts, school appearances and workshops in Farmington and Bethel from March 31 to April 5.
The arts groups were awarded grants by the Onion Foundation of Winthrop and the Davis Family Foundation of Falmouth.
The New York-based piano and percussion duo, first formed in 1997 by brothers Garah and Gregory Landes, has developed a national reputation for performing varied works of classical, jazz and contemporary music in their own piano and percussion arrangements, and for teaching and performing in schools and colleges to inspire students with a new understanding of music.
In Farmington, they will give a public concert Sunday afternoon, April 3, at Mount Blue High School’s Bjorn Auditorium. The duo will perform at assembly programs and workshops for students from elementary, middle and high schools in Farmington, New Sharon, Kingfield, Phillips and Strong, plus the University of Maine in Farmington.
The Landes brothers grew up in New York, completed graduate studies at the Manhattan Music School and Julliard Conservatory, and have won recognition for performing and teaching in New York City, New Jersey and California, with appearances at the Tanglewood Jazz Festival in Massachusetts, the Bar Harbor Music Festival, the Moab Music Festival in Utah and the Sienna Chamber Music Festival in Italy.
