COPLIN PLANTATION — An Eliot man is accused of entering a home on Carrabassett Road late Tuesday and assaulting the homeowners.

The couple, ages 59 and 65, did not know the intruder, Garrett Morrow, 25, Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said.

The husband suffered cuts to his forehead, ear and wrist, the sheriff said.

Morrow was arrested on a felony charge of burglary and a misdemeanor charge of refusing to submit to arrest, Nichols said. He was also issued a summons on two counts of misdemeanor assault.

The burglary charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

The wife told Franklin County Cpl. Matthew Brann that a man who was obviously under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol showed up at her door and she told him to leave, Nichols said.

The man refused and got into her car, then got out of it and entered the garage. The wife said the man entered the house via the garage, which was when her husband intervened.

As a result, the husband got knocked to the floor in the living room and was repeatedly kicked by the man, he said.

The wife yelled at the man, who turned and assaulted her, also knocking her to the floor, Nichols said.

The wife said the man started to grab her around her neck and then stopped and went outside when Deputy Andrew Morgan and a U.S. Border Patrol agent arrived, he said.

Morgan discovered an intoxicated man outside the residence.

The man had his hands in his pockets and was ordered to remove them so police could see whether he had a weapon, Nichols said.

Morrow failed to comply with orders and the agent Tazed him, which temporarily incapacitated him, Nichols said.

Morgan handcuffed Morrow and took him into custody. Both the husband and Morrow were treated at the scene by NorthStar EMS ambulance personnel.

Morrow was taken to Franklin County jail in Farmington. He was scheduled to appear before a judge Wednesday.
