Hundreds to perform
Beethoven in MMS,
Bates collaboration

LEWISTON — The Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, 122 Ash St., will host five choirs and two orchestras performing two pieces by Ludwig van Beethoven: Missa Solemnis, Opus 123 and Meeres Stille, Opus 112.

The performance will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 3.

This concert is being produced by the Maine Music Society and Bates College, and includes the choirs and orchestras of these organizations as well as the Chamber Choirs of Edward Little and Lewiston high schools. Also included is the Schola Cantorum of the Basilica under the direction of John Corrie, artistic director of the Maine Music Society and director of the Bates choral program.

The Missa Solemnis is rarely performed because of the large size of the orchestra and the demanding scope of the music. To hear it in the Basilica with a full orchestra and over 150 voices will be a rare treat.

Advance tickets may be purchased by calling L/A Arts at 207-782-7228 or by visiting www.mainemusicsociety.org. General admission tickets cost $25, or $10 for students; conductor’s circle tickets cost $50, and premium tickets cost $35.
