FARMINGTON — County commissioners agreed to increase wages for part-time corrections officers at the Franklin County jail from $13.07 an hour to $14.01 an hour, effective March 7.
Jail Administrator Maj. Doug Blauvelt requested the increase because now all corrections officers, including those who are part time, have to be fully certified as required by the state. Previously, part-time officers did not have to be certified.
Part-time corrections officers have been stuck at an old rate even though they are all going through the same 200-hour training course that full-time certified officers go through, he said.
“Some of our part-time officers have been around a long time,” Blauvelt said.
