1955 – 2016

AUBURN — John F. Williams, 60, of Lewiston, died Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Hospice House in Auburn, after a long illness.

John was born in Gardiner on Oct. 11, 1955, to Edward T. Williams and Charlotte Brown Williams (Labbe) and graduated in 1975 from Gardiner Area High School.

John was one of the hardest-working men around and held many different jobs in his lifetime. In his early years, John worked on dairy farms in Vassalboro, Nobleboro, Richmond, Auburn and Unity; in later years, he worked as a trucker for Yarmouth Lumber and drove a snowplow for the town of Durham. Prior to becoming disabled, he was a clerk at the Big Apple in Lewiston.

John had fond memories of his teenage years, when he spent summers on the family farm in Richmond. He loved working on cars and was a big Patriots fan. John was particularly proud of the many years he served on the Durham Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his son, John S. Williams of Lewiston; his grandchildren, Samantha and David Williams of Sabattus; brothers, Carl Williams of Rocky Mount, N.C., David Williams of Windsor, James Williams of Greene and Frederick Williams of Lewiston; sisters, Susan Wallace of Cundy’s Harbor, Tammy Washburn of Brunswick and Frances Jarmuzek of Lisbon; stepmother, Sarah Williams of Brunswick; an uncle, Harold Brown of Richmond; and various nieces, nephews and cousins.
