UPDATE: Mexico police say 95-year-old woman killed in Route 2 crash
MEXICO — A local resident was killed in a three-car crash Wednesday afternoon that shut down a section of Route 2 for several hours, Police Chief Roy Hodsdon said.
He said the name of the deceased person was not released Wednesday night because he had not been able to contact the family.
The names of the others involved were not immediately available either, he said.
Hodsdon said a car headed east on Route 2 near Coulthard’s Pools attempted to make a left turn.
“A minivan that was driving behind the car did not see the car and ended up striking it from behind,” he said. “The passenger car’s wheels were turned left, so when the minivan hit it, it caused the car to go into the westbound lane.”
Hodsdon said a box truck headed west struck the car and went off the road.
“The passenger in the car was the resident who died,” Hodsdon said. “The driver of that car was treated on scene. The three passengers in the minivan were taken to the Rumford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”
