MEXICO — Two women were taken to Rumford Hospital on Monday morning after a head-on collision on River Road, Police Chief Roy Hodsdon said.

Hodsdon said Cheyenne Gannon, 19, of Dixfield was traveling east when her 2002 Nissan Maxima crossed the centerline and struck a 2008 Toyota RAV-4 driven by Linda Law of Dixfield.

“While investigating, we learned that Cheyenne had fallen asleep at the wheel, which caused her vehicle to cross the centerline,” Hodsdon said.

The accident occurred at 7:53 a.m.

Law was transported to Rumford Hospital by Med-Care ambulance for injuries not considered life-threatening. Gannon was taken to the hospital by her parents after she complained of shoulder pain.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene.
