TURNER — Lisa Bennett was congratulated by selectmen Monday night on her appointment as chief of Turner Rescue. She begins her duties April 1.
Bennett has been deputy chief for a year and takes over from Toby Martin who resigned this month to take a position with the town of Wiscasset.
Bennett has 20 years’ experience in emergency medical services, including 12 as chief of Buckfield Rescue. She recently spearheaded an effort to win a $25,000 grant from the Steven and Tabitha King Foundation to buy a cardiac monitor.
At Monday’s meeting, she recommended that Leeds’ rescue subsidy not be increased for fiscal year 2017.
Selectman Kevin Nichols agreed, and motioned to keep the charge the same. Selectman Angelo Terreri seconded the motion, which passed by a unanimous vote.
Town Manager Kurt Schaub provided copies of four proposed zoning ordinance amendments. One is to “establish the approval conditions under which a dead end street could serve up to 30 residential units and another more clearly defines standards for new commercial building.
They will be added to the town meeting warrant, which will be posted Friday, April 1.
Bids are being accepted for a tax-acquired property at 200 Buckfield Road until 4 p.m., April 19. The minimum bid is $3,492, and all bids must include a 10 percent deposit. Unsuccessful bidders will get their deposits back.
Copies of the annual town report, dedicated to Selectman Ralph Caldwell, were distributed.
Fire Chief Rodney Guptill said he found a 2006 Chevrolet truck that can haul the water tank and the four wheeler.
Public Works Director Jack Moultrie said less than 24 yards of the sand/salt mixture has been used since the new pay-per-bucket system was put in place. Therefore, the town is no longer paying for an extra man to cover the operation. Moultrie attributed the low usage to the mild winter and lack of ice.
The next board meeting is at 6 p.m. April 4 at the Town Office.
