SKOWHEGAN (AP) — A Maine woman charged in the death of her newborn son will face a judge this week.
The Morning Sentinel reported (http://bit.ly/1MxvGbw ) 20-year-old Kayla Stewart of Fairfield is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday on charges of murder and manslaughter.
Stewart will also be evaluated for mental competence by a state forensic examiner.
Police arrested Stewart on Jan. 22 after police found the remains of the baby in the garage she shared with her boyfriend, Nicholas Blood.
Stewart’s attorney has argued that Stewart had a miscarriage and panicked. The medical examiner says the full-term baby was born alive and died from asphyxiation or neglect.
Stewart is being held without bail at the Somerset County Jail.
