Jackson-Silver Post 68 will sponsor American Legion basebll
Raymond Hakala, Post Commander of Jackson-Silver Post 68, said Post 68 will again be a sponsor of American Legion Senior Baseball.
Hakala and the Legion feel this is a great opportunity for young athletes to continue their baseball involvement between high school and college. sportsmanship and The 2016 team will again be coached by Bob Remington, who has done an exceptional job along with his coaching staff.
This year’s recruitment of players (which is still in progress) are students from Gould Academy, Telstar, Dirigo and Mountain Valley high schools. Those interested in playing may contact Bob Remington at 890-9161 or Ryan Palmer at 357-6603.
Commander Hakala explained that The Legion is a 501 C (3) non-profit organization. Therefore, all of the expenses for the teams: equipment, uniforms, umpire fee’s, insurance, travel expense and incidental expenses have to be financed by fund raising and private donations. The 2016 annual operating budget is between $2,500 and $4,000.
The Post is reaching out to private institutions, parents, private citizens and any other organization interested in offerning financial aid for this most worthwhile cause. Donations made be made directly to Jackson-Silver Post 68, P. O. Box 178, Locke Mills, Maine 04255.
Unity College Spring 5K
UNITY — Central Maine Striders Inc. and Unity College proudly announce the 34th annual Unity College Spring 5K, which will be held Saturday, April 16, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on campus.
This is one of the fastest, flattest, 3.1-mile races in the state. Edie Dubord holds the course record for women (16.25), while Peter Lessard (14.29) still sets the standard for men. The race averages approximately 80 runners per year.
Entry fee: $10, pre-registration due by April 8. Registering for the race begins at 8 a.m.
