INDUSTRY — Margaret Knapp Heath, 93, of Industry passed away at her home on Clearwater Lake on Tuesday, April 5.
She was born on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 1923, in Farmington, the daughter of Ethel Donahue Knapp and Merton Earl Knapp of Farmington.
Education was an important part of Margaret’s life. She began her schooling in the “Model” School (taught by students from the Normal School) through grade three. She attended the “new” Mallett School from fourth to eighth grade, graduating in 1937. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1941, which was A.D. Ingalls School at that time. Margaret later attended the Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated from Farmington State Teachers College earning her master’s degree in education in 1970. She taught for many years in local schools, including in New Vineyard, Rome, Jay, West Farmington and Farmington. She most loved her teaching at the University of Maine at Farmington in the Early Childhood Program.
She married Glenn Heath on April Fool’s Day, 1951, which has always been a source of a few good chuckles. They were married for 60 years, having been childhood friends during their school days. She and Glenn retired in their mid-50s and then traveled extensively, spending many winters at Alligator Point on Ochlockonee Bay in Florida. Summers were spent at home on “Bull Horse Pond” in Industry.
Her many interests included hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, gardening and especially spending time with her family. She was a member of Kappa Delta Gamma and Maine State Retired Teachers, among other groups. She was active in churches in both Florida and Farmington, and was a faithful member of Shorey Chapel in Allens Mills.
Margaret is survived by her two sons, Steve of Industry and Don of Tallahassee, Fla.; her grandchildren, Eric Heath and his wife, Barbara, of New Vineyard, Jennifer Jespersen and her husband, Bo, of Mount Vernon, and Derek Heath of Tallahassee, Fla.; and her great-grandchildren, Mya Jespersen, Taegan Heath, Jebediah Sullivan and Tyler Mastine. She will be greatly missed by her cat, Tommy.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Glenn; her parents, Ethel Donahue Knapp and Merton Earl Knapp of Farmington; her stepfather, Joseph Bodwell; her brother, Earl Knapp of Temple; and many wonderful aunts, uncles and cousins.
