The Edward Little High School baseball and softball teams invites youth players from Auburn to attend the Red Eddies Youth Hitting Clinics, beginning Sunday, April 3 for four consecutive Sundays in April.

 

The clinics are open only to players who attend Auburn schools this year due to school insurance reasons. The time will be 9:15 a.m to 10:30 a.m. at the newly renovated Ingersoll Turf Facility at The Auburn Recreation Department.

 

The cost is $20 per session or all four for $70. For students from other local areas, they can attend the Next Pitch sessions at 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings at Ingersoll as well. Early Season Pass Sale Act before May 1

Mainers are lucky to have three excellent ski resorts within a short driving distance from our area — Loon Mountain in New Hampshire and Maine’s Sugarloaf and Sunday River. They are all at your disposal with the purchase of the New England Pass. These three resorts are all managed by the Boyne Company and are available at three levels, gold, silver and bronze.

The Bronze pass is the most affordable, but is only an option for those who are able to ski during the mid week — Monday through Friday — during non-vacation times. Skiing during mid week means short lift lines, avoidance of big crowds, and savings on lodging and dining. The New England Bronze pass is affordable at $415.

Weekend warriors have the choice of Silver and Gold. A Silver pass makes the most sense unless the bulk of your ski days fall during Christmas and February school vacation week. Vacation days are when the resorts are the their busiest. A Silver pass clocks in at $709 and the Gold at $1,049. The Sliver pass has a total of 13 blackout days.

A convenient way to lock in the early season New England rate is to take advantage of their payment plan and plunk down $50 before April 30 and pay installments during the summer and fall months.

New Hampshire’s Gunstock Mountain offers the following deals on a season pass purchase before the start of May: Adults $479, teens $429 and kids 6 to 12 and seniors is only $299. Gunstock leads the pack for night skiing. It’s available Tuesday through Saturdays, along with snow tubing.

The Max Pass is now good at 25 mountains. Better still, the early season price is $100 less than last year. It clocks in at $599. The pass is good any day of the week, including weekends and holidays and affords the holder up to five days of skiing and riding at each resort. If used to the max, that’s over 120 days of skiing. It includes the following resorts: Sunday River and Sugarloaf in Maine, Loon in New Hampshire, three Vermont Resorts — Killington, Pico, and Stratton —  Wachusett Mountain in Massachusetts and the Canadian mega resort-Mont Tremblant.

There are 13 Western resorts included on the pass, but the ones worth flying to include the three from Colorado: Steamboat, Copper Mountain, and Winter Park, as well as Big Sky in Montana. New in the West are two mammoth resorts, Utah’s Mount Solitude and Alaska’s Alyeska.

A new ski club for our regional area is now in the planning stage to allow Max Pass.
