WATERFORD — The Oxford County Educators Association-Retired will meet Friday, April 15, at the North Waterford Congregational Church.
Sign-ins will be at 10:30 a.m., followed by a business meeting at 11 a.m. The meal will be served at noon. The scheduled program will begin around 1 p.m.
Percy Turner, retired member of the Maine State Police who served for nearly 30 years, will speak about the “crime of the century” that occurred in Oxford County in 1937. Dr. James Littlefield and his wife, Lydia, were brutally murdered and two men were convicted of the same crime. The controversy continues today regarding the outcome of the trials.
The fundraiser for April 15 is the “cookie walk.” Everyone is asked to bring in two-dozen cookies in packages of six.
The state convention will be held May 12 and OCEA-R will have a table in participation of this year’s theme, “Celebrate Maine.” Anyone who has anything to contribute to the table is asked to bring it to the meeting.
Any retired person who worked in the field of education is encouraged to attend the meeting.
