BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Land Trust has invited members of the Mahoosuc Mountain Rescue Team to speak about their work at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at the McLaughlin Auditorium at Gould Academy.
Development Associate Jolan Ippolito said Bob Baribeau, Chris Hayward and Dan Elliott will share their experiences.
“There are a lot more volunteers that work in the group, but we got some of the more local members to speak at the event,” Ippolito said.
The presentation is a part of the land trust’s Into the Woods speaker series, which invites people who work in Maine’s forests to talk about their jobs.
“Every year, we come up with a different theme to organize our guests around,” Ippolito said. “Last year, it was the This Is Your Backyard series. We’ve already started coming up with ideas for next year’s theme.”
The Mahoosuc Mountain Rescue Team, which was formed 30 years ago, is a volunteer group that assists the Maine Warden Service at incidents and accidents.
Ippolito said that while they primarily serve Western Maine, the team travels throughout the state to help those in need in the backcountry.
“They perform technical rope rescue when needed, and are on call 24/7, 365 days a year,” she said.
