WEST PARIS — The Planning Board approved a request Tuesday night by resident Carl Young to operate a medical marijuana greenhouse.

Young told the board he would construct the greenhouse next to his home on Morse Hill Road, and it would be either 40 by 50 feet or 30 by 100 feet.

Young is licensed by the state to provide medical marijuana for five people.

The proposal will go to the Board of Selectmen for its consideration.

Board members also considered a property issue raised by Travis York, who owns property set back from a subdivision on High Street with a 50-foot-wide easement leading to it along the right side of the subdivision.

The Maine Department of Transportation declined York’s application for entrance on High Street because of “insufficient sight-distance.” The letter written by Region Engineer Mark Hume refusing the driveway permit said that at the 45 mph posted speed limit, York’s proposed driveway needed a minimum of 425 feet of visibility for oncoming drivers, but it was measured at only 280 feet of “southerly sight-distance.”

The subdivision was originally approved by a previous Planning Board.

Chairman Stanley Hill said the board would study the issue and get back to York.

The board also approved a request made by Jason Koskela to construct an open-air dining area next to his Rustic Diner and Tavern on Route 26 near Snow Falls.

Planning Board members approved recommending Mike Grass to join them on the board. Selectmen have to approve the recommendation.

Board member Diane Holt requested that she be reassigned to become an alternate board member should another candidate be chosen for full participation on the board.
