FAIRFIELD — Catcher Meagan Gosselin ripped a home run and Kallie May added a triple as Lewiston pounded out seven hits and plated three runs in the seventh inning to upend Lawrence, 6-3, in the first game of the season Wednesday.

Danielle Cyr and Megan Theriault combined to strike out eight batters for the Blue Devils (1-0), with Theriault picking up the win in relief.

Jordan Mynahan also ripped a double for the visitors. Lilly Herrin suffered the loss for the Bulldogs (0-1), while catcher Haley Holt had a double and Sammy Knox a triple for host Lawrence.

Bangor 13, Oxford Hills 12

PARIS — Bangor rallied back with nine runs in the seventh inning Wednesday before Grace Perron knocked in the winning run in the eighth to give them a 13-12 win over Oxford Hills. 

The Vikings (0-1) held a 9-3 advantage through the first six frames. Erin Morton led the squad with three hits and two RBIs, while Cody Akers drove in three runs on three hits.

The Rams (1-0) were paced by Emily Gilmore and Sarah Bragg with home runs, while Kathryn Sund belted out a pair of hits.

Baseball

Bangor 8, Oxford Hills 1

BANGOR — Bangor built a five-run advantage in the first two frames before cruising to a 8-1 early-season win over Oxford Hills on Wednesday. 

Ben Crichton led the Rams with two hits and one RBI, while Trevor Delaite gave up five hits in seven innings to notch the mound win.

The Vikings (0-1) were led by Bailey West with a pair of hits.

Maranacook 6, Spruce Mountain 2

READFIELD — Max McQuillen belted a pair of hits and drove in two runs as Maranacook hustled to a 6-2 victory over Spruce Mountain in a KVAC Class A baseball tilt Wednesday. 

Jason Brooks chipped in for the Black Bears (1-0) with an RBI double and a single, while Avery Beckwith notched the mound win. 

The Phoenix (0-1) were paced by Noah Preble with a pair of singles. 

Lawrence 5, Lewiston 4

FAIRFIELD — Derek Bown led a trio of players on offense as Lawrence edged Lewiston 5-4 in a season-opening Class A baseball matchup on Wednesday.

Bowen and Colby Lawrence each each belted RBI doubles for the Bulldogs (1-0), while Braden Ballard added an RBI double and a single. 

The Blue Devils (0-1) were led by Evan Cox with two hits and one RBI, while Austin Wing chipped in with a two-run single.
