I did not realize until recently that nine of the past 11 governors were elected without a majority vote. Of course, that happens when more than two candidates run for the same office at the same time. That happens a lot here in Maine.

I first took notice of it when Gov. Paul LePage won his first election against more progressive candidates. That is why I am convinced that ranked choice voting is the way elections should be run in Maine — it gives everyone more say in choosing not just first choice, but second or even third choice if there are many candidates on the ballot.

I urge others to join me in supporting efforts to institute ranked choice voting in Maine.
