WELLS (AP) — Firefighters in southern New Hampshire battled brush fires in Wells and Saco that burned through woods and delayed Amtrak Downeaster trains.

Fire crews from Ogunquit and York were called in by the town of Wells around 8 p.m. Thursday to help stamp out a fire that broke out near railroad tracks on Bragdon Road.

Officials say crews fought three separate fires in Wells, which scorched approximately 4 acres alongside the tracks.

Capt. Vincent Pelletier says the Saco Fire Department was called to a brush fire on Bayview Terrace around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The fire burned about a half-acre of woods and was so intense that it melted the vinyl siding of a nearby home.

Maine Forest Service officials say the entire state is at high risk for wildfires.
