DIXFIELD — The town’s Public Works director wants a place to store equipment, such as a grader blade and sweeper, that gets left outside all year.
Selectmen said maybe.
Randy Glover asked the board Monday night if he could use insurance money in a reserve account to build a cold storage shed.
“We just don’t have enough room to put everything under cover,” Glover said.
“If we used that foundation pad for a storage facility, I’d like to use it as cold storage,” Glover said. “There’d be no heat in there. It would just be power for lights, and cold storage for the stuff that’s sitting outside.”
He estimated it would cost between $6,500 and $7,000.
Town Manager Carlo Puiia said the town recently removed fuel storage tanks from the town garage that was “no longer used by the town,” leaving the Public Works crew with a 28- by 28-foot foundation pad that could be built upon, “if the board supports such an action.”
Board of Selectmen Chairman Hart Daley agreed with Glover’s assessment, adding that it’s not good to have equipment “sitting out all winter long.”
Puiia said that the board wanted confirmation that the insurance money would cover a cold storage shed before pursuing it further.
The board agreed to place the issue on the agenda for its May 9 meeting.
