NEW GLOUCESTER — Voters at the annual town meeting Monday, May 2, will be asked to approve spending $18,000 on improvements to the library and $50,000 for a pickup truck, among other requests.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Memorial School on Route 231. Voter registration begins at 6:30 p.m.
The proposed budget for 2016-17 is $5.02 million, which is 2.5 percent more than this fiscal year. Revenues of $3.15 million would leave $1.87 million to be raised by local taxes.
Included in the 33-article warrant are the following:
• $9,500 from the Capital Reserve account to eliminate radon from the library; a
• $8,500 to repair the library foundation;
• $825,000 for phase three of the Morse Road reconstruction project;
• $25,245 from the fairgrounds playground account; and
• $24,755 from the fairgrounds capital reserve account to improve the New Gloucester Fairgrounds. The state is contributing $55,000, for a total of $105,000 for the project.
Other requests include:
• Emergency medical services, $156,153;
• Fire Department, $218.740;
• Public safety dispatch, $37,752;
• Public Works, $703,040;
• Solid waste, $233,028; and
• Library, $93,631.
Voters will be asked to authorize selectmen to dispose of 13 properties acquired due to nonpayment of taxes.
