TURNER — Matt Jordan, president of the Turner Timberland ATV Club, was granted a request by the Board of Selectmen on Monday to use a section of Center Bridge Road as an official ATV access route.

The route will provide ATV enthusiasts access to Schrep’s Corner Store. It will end at the corner of Upper Street and Center Bridge Road.

Selectmen agreed with Jordan that the wide shoulder on Center Bridge Road makes it an ideal choice for an ATV route.

Town Manager Kurt Schaub asked Jordan if headlights were required on ATVs and Jordan offered to include the requirement in the signs he will post.

Selectman Ralph Caldwell motioned that the board approve the request. It was seconded by Selectman Kevin Nichols and passed unanimously.

The next step is state approval.

The board agreed to contact law enforcement by Friday if the buyer of ambulance No. 3 has not paid the $8,000 sale price by then.

Rescue Chief Lisa Bennett said she had no success in multiple attempts to collect the payment.

There was some confusion as to why the ambulance was released to the seller when payment had not been made.

Selectmen voted 5-0 in favor of selecting the Thomas Agency for collecting unpaid rescue bills. Bennett recommended the move.

Collection efforts will commence after 120 days of delinquency. Caldwell said low-income and elderly should be given special consideration.

Selectman Angelo Terreri clarified that no legal action be taken against any resident for delinquency without the approval of the board.

Bennett reported that the Rescue Department would go over the budget for salaries.

Chairman of the Board of Selectmen Kurt Youland asked Bennett if she thought she could “save someplace else.”

“It’s going to be tight, but we’ll be OK,” Bennett said. “We cannot spend now unless necessary.”

Terreri motioned for the board to approve the rescue contract for Leeds for $18,608. The motion was seconded by Selectman Steven Maheu and approved unanimously.

Selectmen voted unanimously to negotiate a price with Allstate Asphalt for road repairs.

The next board meeting is at 6:30 p.m. May 16 at the Town Office.

A special joint meeting with the School Administrative District 52 board will be held at 6 p.m. May 10 in the gym at Tripp Middle School.
