RUMFORD — The Rumford Eagles held its annual Child Advocacy Day on Saturday, giving children and parents a chance to learn about personal safety.

The event also was a fundraiser for participating youth organizations, with money raised through donated raffle items from local businesses, bake sales, a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction.

Among the organizations participating were Community Dental, Safe Voices, the Rumford Fire Department, the Rumford Police Department, the Greater Rumford Community Center, the Mexico Recreation Department and the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition, Eagles member Fred Allen said.

Child Advocacy Day has been in held in Rumford “for at least 10 years, but probably longer than that,” Allen said. “We’ve added different vendors and participants over the years. The most important thing we can do is make the event as good as possible for the town, so people can see what organizations are out there to protect our kids.”
