LISBON — The track at Thompson Field was kind to the home team in a Mountain Valley Conference outdoor track meet on Tuesday. The weather was kind in general.

Both the Lisbon boys’ and girls’ teams took first place in the six-team meet that also featured Dirigo, Mountain Valley, St. Dominic Academy, Madison and KVAC conference member Maranacook.

“It’s a combination of all kinds of different people that just stand out,” Lisbon coach Dean Hall said of the dual victories.

One of his athletes stood out just a little bit more than most in helping the Greyhound girls beat second-place Maranacook.

Bree Sautter entered into four individual events — and nearly won them all.

Only a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash kept the Lisbon senior from sweeping the four running events she competed in.

“I’m exhausted,” Sautter said. “But we’ve been kind of working up to it. Coach has been putting me in three of the four, and just trying to build up to the four at the same time.”

Dirigo’s Sabrina Doud was the one to spoil Sautter’s attempt. It was some revenge exacted of sorts, after Sautter edged Doud by .12 of a second in winning the 100-meter dash.

Doud later won the 400 in a time of 1:02.95, besting Sautter’s finish of 1:05.30.

“Three out of four’s not bad,” Hall said.

Sautter’s final three events came in quick succession, with only the 300-meter hurdles creating a break between the 400- and the 800-meter run, then no event between the 800- and the 200-meter dash.

Sautter didn’t have to worry about Doud in the latter two events, but did have to tough out the pair of wins by less than a second each time.

“We wanted to see that to see if on one of her home turfs, in front of her crowd, if she could pull it off,” Hall said of Sautter’s full slate. “We never did that to anybody, in terms of ‘can you do the 100, 200, 400 and 800 against good competition?’ Yes she can.”

“I have a lot of people supporting me and telling me ‘yeah, you have the ability to do it,’ but it’s different to actually do it,” Sautter added.

She was by no means the only Greyhound girl to step up. The 3,200-meter relay team opened the meet with a first-place finish, then Abby Gamache and Sydney Douglas went 1-2 in the 1,600-meter race walk. Bree Daigle won the 300 hurdles and the Greyhounds took first in both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. Emily Brewer pitched in on the field events with a win in the shot put.

Mountain Valley finished third on the girls’ side, with Dirigo fourth and St. Dom’s fifth.

Lauren Sterling won a pair of events for the Falcons, taking first in both the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump. Teammate Abbie Blauvelt won the long jump.

Doud added a triple jump victory to her win in the 400.

For the Saints, Ella Brown won both the mile and two-mile, while Lexie Kesaris won the javelin.

The Lisbon boys finished with a comfortable lead over second-place Mountain Valley. Maranacook was third, followed by Madison, Dirigo and St. Dom’s.

Like the girls, the Greyhound boys started with a 3,200 relay victory. Lisbon swept all three relay events.

Mike Schlotterbeck and Alan Lavoie went 1-2 in the race walk, and Jordan Cole (mile), Nick Huston (800) and Austin Bedford (200) also won running events.

“Nick Huston quietly goes about doing things well,” Hall said. “Austin Beford had a real good day.”

Mountain Valley scored a lot of points in the 100 dash, going 1-2-3. It was who finished first that was a little bit of an upset.

“We had a kid, Eli Turner, who was new to track this year, show up and he beat Kyle (Farrar) today,” Falcons coach JT Taylor said. “So that was a surprise.”

A freshman, Turner edged out the senior Farrar by .09 seconds. Mike Provencher was .13 seconds behind Farrar in third.

Farrar did take first in the long jump, and earned a runner-up finish in the triple jump. Chris Glover won the javelin.

“I’m impressed. We had a lot of guys do their personal best today,” said Taylor, who noted that his team doesn’t have the distance runners to fully compete with Lisbon. “So overall it was good. It’s nice to kind of feel like we can compete with the bigger schools now, and we’re growing.”

Dirigo got a pair of victories from Hunter White, in the 400 dash and triple jump. Diego Villamarin won the two-mile run for St. Dom’s.

From the start until the end of the meet, however, it was everyone else trailing Lisbon at it’s own track.

“Great conditions, great track, great competition. Can’t ask for a better day,” Hall said.
