AUBURN — Oxford Hills rallied back from a four-run deficit Friday, erupting for five runs in the final frame to secure a 6-4 softball victory over Edward Little.

The Vikings (8-4-1) came up big in the seventh thanks to back-to-back doubles by Makayla Starbird and Cody Akers. Erin Morton scored the eventual game-winner on a walk by Hannah Kenney.

The Red Eddies (10-3) were paced by Emmy Lashua with three hits in the contest, while Kylie Bureau suffered the loss.

Spruce Mountain 18, MCI 2

JAY — Alex Bessey scattered five hits and drew ample run support from the first frame on as Spruce Mountain overpowered MCI 18-2 in a late-season KVAC softball tilt Friday.

Mikayla Holt led the Phoenix (5-7) with three hits and four RBIs, while Haley Turcotte and Hannah St. Pierre each pounded out two hits. Bessey and Kaylee Leclerc also contributed with two hits apiece.

Sydney Morton led MCI with a pair of doubles, while Hailey Stewart belted out two singles.

Carrabec 6, Dirigo 0

DIXFIELD — Baylee Atwood had a pair of hits and two RBIs to lead the Carrabec Cobras to a 6-0 victory over the Dirigo Cougars in an MVC softball contest.

The Cobras opened the game with two runs in the top of the first, added one in the third and tacked on three more in the sixth. Mickayla Willette and Brooke Moore each had a double and drove in a run. Sam LeBeau went the distance striking out nine and she had an RBI.

Dirigo had four hits, all singles, one each from Ellie Jasper, Emma Lueders, Katelyn Olsen and Kenzie Lord.

Monmouth 5, Mountain Valley 2

MONMOUTH — Haylee Langlois broke things open with a two-run single in the fifth inning as Monmouth hustled to a 5-2 softball victory over Mountain Valley Friday.

Mariah Herr led the Mustangs (6-7) with two hits and one RBI, while Emily Kaplan belted a double.

Karen Flaherty and Sydney Petrie led the Falcons (7-6) with two hits apiece. Emily Chasse earned her fifth pitching win of 2016, while Emily Laubauskas suffered the loss.

Leavitt 14, Maranacook 2

TURNER — Leavitt hammered four home runs and used 16 hits to dispatch Maranacook 14-2 in a softball game Friday.

The Hornets (7-6) unloaded on the Black Bears (5-7) with 10 runs to end the game in the sixth inning.

Catcher Kaitlyn DeBlois delivered two homers, Maddie Green added one and Angel Daigle smacked a game-ending grand slam in the sixth. Cassie Bunker had three hits and drove in two runs.

For Maranacook, Jaye Hilton homered and had a single.

Buckfied 14, Temple Academy 0

WATERVILLE — Brianna Damon tripled and belted a three-run homer and Buckfield winning pitcher Julia Dow threw a one-hit, 14-0 victory against Temple Academy in a softball game Friday.

The Bucks (10-3) used 14 hits to wallop Temple (4-4). Ashley Campbell and Abby Fogg each had three hits.

Madison 19, Mt. Abram 2

SALEM — Kayla Bess drove in six runs and had five hits to lead the Madison Bulldogs to a 19-2 victory over the Mt. Abram Roadrunners in MVC action.

Madeline Wood drove in four on five hits while pitching five inning and striking out eight. Whitney Bess drove in two runs while Aly Leblanc had a pair of hits in the victory.

Spruce Mountain 4, MCI 3

LIVERMORE — Nate Goodine ripped a two-run double in the third inning to give Spruce Mountain a narrow 4-3 win over MCI in a KVAC baseball tilt Friday. 

Devin Pomeroy led the Phoenix (5-7) with two hits and one RBI, while Goodine also earned the mound win after six successful frame of effort.

Pedro Matos led MCI with three hits, while Clark Morrison pounded out two hits. Matos went the distance for MCI and suffered the loss. 

Monmouth 9, Mountain Valley 7

MONMOUTH — Jon Adley ripped an RBI single in the seventh inning to give Monmouth to a 9-7 victory over Mountain Valley in a late-season baseball tilt Friday. 

Hunter Richardson led the undefeated Mustangs (13-0) with three hits, while Chandler Harris belted out two hits. 

Adley and Garrett Gabarini led the Falcons (4-9) with two hits each, while Travis Hartford also pounded out a pair of hits. 

St. Dom’s 2, Hall-Dale 0

AUBURN — St. Dom’s managed a single run in both the first and third frames to secure an easy-going 2-0 win over Hall-Dale in more local baseball action Friday. 

Justin Keaney ripped an RBI single in the first inning to plate Gavin Bates, giving the Saints (11-2) a 1-0 advantage. 

Bates earned his sixth mound win of 2016 with a seven-inning, one-hit effort. 

Dirigo 10, Carrabec 2

DIXFIELD — Gavin Arsenault scattered six hits and drew ample run support as Dirigo cruised to a 10-2 rout over Carrabec in a MVC baseball tilt Friday. 

Gus Brown led the prowling Cougars (8-5) with two hits and four RBIs, highlighted by a three-run double in the second frame.

Dylan Willette led the Cobras (6-7) with two hits in the contest. 

Lisbon 24, Boothbay 2

BOOTHBAY — Ryley Austin and Lucas Francis combined to hurl a two-hitter on Friday and drew more than adequate run support as Lisbon trounced Boothbay, 24-2, in more late-season baseball action. 

Austin Fournier and Noah Austin led the Greyhounds (10-3) with three hits and two RBIs each. Tyler Halls ripped a triple and a double to drive in three RBIs, while Nate Havlicek drove in three runs on two hits. 

George Hallowell and Adam Purin each belted out singles for Boothbay (1-12).

St. Dom’s 17, Edward Little 8

AUBURN — Caroline Castonguay netted eight goals Friday to lead St. Dom’s to a 17-8 win over Edward Little in a Twin Cities girls’ lacrosse matchup.

Ryleigh Stebbins and Avery Lutrzykowski chipped in for the undefeated Saints (8-0) with three goals apiece, while Kristina Cornelio added two. A single tally from Emma Theriault completed the scoring. 

Francesca-Beth Haines led the Red Eddies (3-6) with six goals, while Megan Steele and Brooke Lever also tallied. Abigail Slonina made nine saves for St. Dom’s, while Mariah Vaillancourt turned aside 10 shots for Edward Little. 

Oxford Hills 9, Winslow 6

WINSLOW — Hannah Hartnett netted four goals Friday to lead Oxford Hills to a 9-6 victory over Winslow in more girls’ lacrosse action.

Haley Wakefield chipped in for the Vikings with two goals, while single tallies from Cassidy Walo, Allyssa Hanley and Gillian Grover completed the scoring. 

Heather Kervin led the Black Raiders with four goals, while Sabrina Jandreau and Kamryn Michaud also tallied. Samantha Bickford made 14 saves for Oxford Hills, while Hailey Grenier turned aside nien shots betwen the posts for Winslow. 

College softball

ATHENS, Ga. — UMaine softball, competing in its first NCAA Regional since 2004, dropped a 6-0 decision at No. 16 Georgia on Friday afternoon. The Black Bears managed five hits against the Bulldogs. Maine will take on Oklahoma St. in an elimination game Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Erin Bogdanovich went the distance in the circle for Maine, giving up six runs, five earned, on nine hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

“I told our girls that having the opportunity to play in a regional is huge for us and we will be better prepared for tomorrow when we go play,” head coach Mike Coutts, an Auburn native, said. “Hats off to Georgia. They certainly are an SEC school that is good, but I thought that our girls competed very well today too. We got behind and we didn’t give in. We competed.”

Felicia Lennon went 1-for-3 with a single and played flawless defense at shortstop with four putouts. Rachel Carlson, Janelle Bouchard, Rachel Harvey and Maddie Decker each added hits.
