ST. ALBANS (AP) — Police say the body of a 4-year-old boy has been found in a man-made pond not far from his Maine home hours after he had been reported missing.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says the boy’s body was recovered from a pond located on his uncle’s property in the town of St. Albans at about 7 p.m. Sunday. The property is located next door to the boy’s home.

The boy, who wasn’t identified, was found by a Maine Warden Service diver in water at least 7 feet deep. Authorities say clues led them to the boy’s whereabouts after he was reported missing shortly after 4 p.m.

An autopsy will be conducted by the state medical examiner’s office. The case remains under investigation.
