LEWISTON — Kerry Cox Irish, LCSW, OSW-C, was recently honored as recipient of the 2016 ACS Quality of Life in Cancer Care Award.

The award, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, was presented at the 2016 Association of Oncology Social Work 32nd Annual Conference on May 4-6 in Tampa, Fla.

The award was established by the American Cancer Society to honor individuals who have innovatively contributed to the quality of life of those living with cancer through their publications, presentations and direct service, reflecting a commitment to quality of life for all cancer survivors.

Irish has worked in oncology and hospice-care settings since 1995, and was intimately involved in the creation and development of The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing in Lewiston. She serves as a psychotherapist and the psychosocial services manager for the center.

She has advanced certifications in oncology social work and interactive guided imagery, and has published and also presented at multiple local and national conferences on psychosocial oncology care-related topics. She is writing a book for people living with advanced cancer.

In addition to receiving the award, Irish presented the ACS-sponsored Quality of Life Award lecture at the conference. Her talk, “Finding Safe Harbor Within,” focused on modalities that help people affected by advanced cancer find meaning, hope and purpose.
