JAY — Police said a motorcyclist they saw going about 100 mph on Main Street on Thursday night crashed off Maxwell Road after failing to negotiate a turn.
Michael Cook, 32, of Wilton suffered a broken arm and was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, according to a Police Department news release. He was found lying next to woods and his heavily damaged 1999 Kawasaki was 15 feet into the woods.
Officers Brad Timberlake and Stephen E. Gould were conducting a special enforcement detail when they saw the sport-style motorcycle going about 100 mph north on Main Street at 7:18 p.m. As the motorcycle and the officers approached the intersection with Route 17 in North Jay, the operator looked over his shoulder toward the cruiser, accelerated and passed other vehicles, according to the release.
The officers continued with emergency lights and siren activated and eventually found the injured biker.
The incident is still under investigation.
