1924 – 2016

TURNER — Marshall C. Bates, 91, of Turner, died at his home Saturday, May 28.

He was born in Turner on Aug. 24, 1924. He graduated from Leavitt Institute and shortly after was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country with pride during World War II. He spent the remainder of his life following his passion for farming.

He was a charter member of both the Maine Angus Association and the Maine Beef Producers Association.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and cherished time spent with his family. He was an amazingly generous, hardworking and loving man.

He is survived by his six children: daughters, Esther Yoder of Athens, Ga., Cyndy Merrick and husband, Connie, of Buckfield, Merri Baillargeon and husband, Moe, of Fryeburg; his sons, Rusty and wife, Brenda, of Clinton, Ky., and wife, Donna, of Turner, Patrick and wife, Yvette, of Turner; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Billie Bates; his parents and siblings; and a great-grandson.
