FARMINGTON — Officials determined Wednesday that an electrical malfunction caused a fire that destroyed a pole barn at 656 Mosher Hill Road on Tuesday, Fire Chief Terry Bell said.

“It was accidental; it just happened,” Bell said.

The barn was well wired at the time it was built, but a malfunction occurred, he said.

Bell and an investigator from the Office of the State Fire Marshal went over the rubble Wednesday to determine the cause.

The barn, owned by Karen and Patrick Cyr, had contained an antique tractor, tools, boats and life vests. There were 30 years of mementos and treasures in the barn, Karen Cyr said at the scene Tuesday evening.

Bell said the wind blew flames away from the nearby house and garage and into surrounding trees.
