RUMFORD — Madeleine Kaubrys and Kelli Trenoweth are this year’s top two graduates at Mountain Valley High School.

Both believe that hard work achieves positive results — and they credit their teachers with introducing them to a variety of topics.

They also believe that good time management allows them to participate in much the school has to offer, a trait that has not only benefited them academically, but also as participants in a wide variety of activities.

“I knew if I wanted to get into Boston College, I’d have to put aside time,” Valedictorian Madeleine Kaubrys said.

She plans to attend college in the fall, and perhaps major in psychology, although she’s open to find what interests her.

Salutatorian Kelli Trenoweth plans to enter the University of Maine in Orono with a possible double major in physics and biology.

Stephen Hawking, an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist and author, is her inspiration, Trenoweth said. The 74-year-old was diagnosed with ALS when he was 21.

“It’s amazing how he has accomplished so much despite his disability,” she said.

Both students have also completed college courses offered at the high school and have been involved in a variety of activities.

Kaubrys has played field hockey for four years and served as caption for two. She is a member of the Student Council, National Honor Society and the math team, and is learning to play the saxophone.

Trenoweth is also a member of the National Honor Society, has performed in theater and chorus, and has played soccer and softball.

“I’m really excited to get out and start my life,” Trenoweth said.

“I’ve had senioritis for about two years,” Kaubrys said. “I’m ready for the next step.”

She is the daughter of Mary and Jack Kaubrys.

Trenoweth is the daughter of Steven and Roxanne Trenoweth.

The Class of 2016 will receive their diplomas at commencement exercises at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 9.
