1933 – 2016

TURNER — Norma Gammon Carter, 82, a longtime resident of Turner, died unexpectedly Monday morning, June 6, at her home.

She was born in Framingham, Mass., on July 20, 1933, one of three children born to Harold and Leora (Leavitt) Maxwell. When she was an infant, her parents moved the family to Turner. Norma grew up attending local schools and became a lifelong resident of this community. In June 1952, she married her first husband, Theodore Stanley Gammon, who predeceased her in 1963. She later married Everett Carter Jr. in 1988, and he predeceased her in August 2014.

Norma was a member of the First Universalist Church, the Red Hat Society, Turner-area Senior Citizens and the Ladies’ Church Circle. Among her favorite enjoyments were quality times with family, occasional trips to Hollywood Slots and Oxford Casino and the company of her dogs, King, King II and Toby. She loved all animals and birds, and even raised a baby goat many years ago, which she named Columbo. Norma was a loving, devoted and hardworking wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.

She leaves behind her children, Theodore S. Gammon Jr., his wife, Mary, of Topsham, and their children, Liza and Richard; Wayne Gammon, his wife, Vivian, of Turner, and his daughter, Erika Kim Gammon; Norman Gammon, his wife, Brenda, of Turner and their children, Matthew, his wife, Elizabeth, and their children, Alexander, Leena and Isabell, Amanda Hall, her husband, Dana, and their son, Jace; Larry Gammon of Turner, his daughter, Toni Gammon and her fiancé, Garrett Nickerson, and their daughter, Chloe; and Elaine Warner-Stedt, husband, Jerry, of Topsham and her daughter, Chelsey Warner and her companion, Tristan Landry and her son, Forest Warner; many nieces and nephews; and longtime family friend, Guy Wing Jr. of Turner.

Norma was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Leora; her two husbands, Theodore Gammon and Everett Carter; one brother, Llewellyn Maxwell; and one sister, Verl Maxwell.
