This year, 2,140 permits were in the offing, including 205 that went to out-of-state residents at Saturday’s drawing.
The Portland Press Herald reports that David Geschke drove six hours from Bethlehem, Pa., and was rewarded by being present to hear his name drawn for the first time in the 11 years he’s entered the lottery.
Geschke said the experience was “surreal.”
Nearly 49,000 hunters entered the lottery, including 13,800 non-residents.
Maine has issued 2,140 moose hunting permits for the 2016 moose hunting season — 675 fewer than last year.
