WALES — The Regional School Unit 4 board Wednesday tentatively decided to present an $18.8 million budget to voters next week.

Voters rejected the $18.9 million spending plan Tuesday.

Among the $100,000 in cuts were the following:

• $7,000 from Superintendent Jim Hodgkin’s salary, at his suggestion;

• $30,000 for a vacant social studies position;

• $10,000 in technology fees; and

• $19,000 for a teaching position, due to retirement.

“People need to understand that budgets are everchanging,” Hodgkin said. “Bills for services sometimes come in lower than expected, insurances change, a teacher retires. None of this was known when the original budget was figured in May.”

The budget will be presented at a districtwide meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at the Oak Hill High School gymnasium.

The budget referendum is set for Tuesday, July 26, in Litchfield, Sabattus and Wales. Polling times and places will be determined.

In other business Wednesday:

• Oak Hill High School Principal Pat Doyle announced her retirement;

• Former principal of Oak Hill Middle School, Marco Aliberti, will become principal of the high school;

• Former assistant principal at Oak Hill Middle School, Ben Wilson, will be middle school principal; and 

• Jarrod Dumas will be middle school assistant principal.

The changes are effective July 1.
